Five New Wellness Hacks
Five key takeaways from the mindbodygreen's Revitalize Summit
Every week I’ll be sharing my personal stories and my thoughts and recommendations on healthy food, intuition, movement, growth mindset and women, all sprinkled with a touch of spirituality.
I’m writing about some of my life experiences – the good and the bad - with the hope that they resonate with you. Mine is not a linear path but a winding road with twists and turns - a life filled with family, friends, gratitude and love. Where has your path taken you?
Today I am a trained Holistic Health Coach and a major foodie. I love healthy, clean, organic food and to share my passion for wellness with anyone who will listen!
Let’s Dive In….
Last month I was an invited guest at the Revitalize Summit in Miami, which was sponsored by mindbodygreen (MBG) and held at The Sacred Space. I attended alone with the intention to be present, experience the event, and learn as much as possible. I was not there to be chatty and make friends. It was a six-hour program, and I was invested in learning.
I was first exposed to MBG in 2018 when I had just completed a 12-month online program to become a Holistic Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. They publish informative daily email newsletters filled with nutrition and wellness advice. I soaked up every word I read. MBG curated excellent articles about gut health, fiber, exercise, breakfast, hydration, protein, SIBO, juicing, and so much more. They were my go-to for all things wellness related.
So when MBG developed their own Functional Nutrition Training (FNT) program in 2021, I signed on immediately. Modules included lessons from my favorite people, leaders in the nutrition and wellness space: Dr. Robin Berzin, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Will Cole, and many more brilliant minds. I devoured the information and graduated from their program six months later.
Since completing the MBG course, I developed a relationship with the FNT Director, Callie Miller. Callie invited me to participate in a live video presentation along with fellow MBG graduate Chef de Cuisine Joe Anthony from the two-Michelin starred Gabriel Kreuther in NYC. Joe and I had the pleasure of speaking about MBG’s FNT program to prospective students. It was an honor.
So earlier this year, when I received an invitation from Callie to attend Revitalize as an MBG guest, I jumped at the chance.
When I first arrived at The Sacred Space I took a breath. It was exactly what I’d expected – a unique setting with a very cool vibe. Simply walking in, a calm descended upon me. My first impression was on point as I enjoyed a cup of iced MBG Clean Coffee+ and a delicious chia seed breakfast sponsored by Purely Elizabeth. Next I took part in the Sound Bath Meditation program. There were 100 of us lying on mats and listening to the vibrations of the sound bowls which was deeply relaxing. Worth trying if you’ve never had the opportunity!
The list of speakers included leaders in the fields of mobility, exercise, hormones, sleep, and stress. They were all great but my top five takeaways were:
Juliet Starrett – CEO of The Ready State Inc. Juliett’s mission is to inspire people to move more. Takeaway: countries where people do not have broken hips or poor mobility are countries where the people sit on the ground daily for eating and sleeping. The simple act of sitting down and standing up from the ground every day is excellent for your body’s overall mobility and longevity. Juliet stressed the importance of sitting on the ground for 30 minutes every day. Love that!
Dr. Amy Shah – a double board-certified medical doctor and wellness expert specializing in allergies, hormones, and gut health. Takeaway: Dr. Shah’s key message was 30-30-3. Daily, eat 30 grams of protein for breakfast, and 30 grams of fiber and 3 servings of prebiotic foods throughout the day. She believes our health begins with nutrition, she loves kiwi with the skin on it, sunlight in the morning and touts eating 50 grams of walnuts to improve brain function.
Dr. Judith Joseph – a NY based psychiatrist, Dr. Joseph is committed to helping people unlock a new world of mental health and personal growth. Takeaway: she shared her five “V’s” to reclaim joy: Validating, Venting, Value, Vitals, Vision. She believes that joy has the capacity to heal.
Dr. Wendy Troxel — sleep expert Dr. Troxel wrote the book, Sharing the Covers, to help couples get their best sleep…even if it means in different rooms! Takeaway: teens need more sleep and early school start times may be a problem.
Dr. Jaime Seeman – also known as Doctor Fit & Fabulous, Dr. Seeman is a board certified OB GYN with a background in Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science. She believes our medical system is not curing chronic disease. Takeaway: she created the Hard to Kill Academy to help people become the best version of themselves.
Lastly, during the break I had the pleasure of saying hello to MBG CEOs and husband and wife, Colleen and Jason Wachob. Great people doing amazing work in the wellness space. I also enjoyed a red light therapy session, a cryotherapy session, a delicious lunch sponsored by True Foods and lastly, I bought a package of the MBG Creatine with Taurine.
Driving home, I reflected on the day. How fortunate I am to be in this world of wellness where people care about the same things I do – longevity, movement, healthy food, and sleep. Thank you Callie and thank you MBG for the invitation. You exceeded my expectations!
You and only you know what is best for your body, mind, and spirit.
